This term is swimming term. This is Room 1 learning how to do arm circles outside of the water. A great opportunity to combine maths with P.E. We have been learning about statistics and investigating key questions about each other around healthy food choices. We are learning to read our data and discuss our findings. Describing Shapes in the classroom.
This term we have been working hard with our basic facts. We have used materials to show our understanding of what one more or plus one looks like.
This term we have been making a big effort to write our numbers correctly.
Look how well we are doing!
Mandarins
We investigated how many mandarin segments were in a Mandarin. We lined the segments up from smallest to tallest and counted them.
We found out that most mandarins had 11 or 12 segments.
The best part was getting to eat them all up. Yum! Yum!
Tens Frames
For maths we learnt the poem "The Jellybean Tree". We drew our own Jellybean tree and measured it using math cubes. We compared our tree to one another to think who had the tallest or shortest tree. Come visit our classroom to see our trees on display!
We have been focusing on the language of before for maths. This video shows Room 1 using the language of before. We worked really hard to pronounce the word "before" correctly.

We read the big book "Bubbles" to help us learn some new vocabulary in maths (up, down, high, low, sideways). We wrote stories about our poem and learnt a short poem. These videos show our learning using the new vocabulary.

As part of our shape unit this term we made a tapa cloth with two of our favorite shapes as our design. We had to draw our repeating shape patterns and describe to Miss Morris the position of the shapes too.
We have been learning about naming and describing shapes. We played a barrier game with a friend and we had to listen carefully to the instructions and put our shapes in the correct positions.

This term we are learning all about ourselves and part of that is to learn to count in our home languages. Here are our short videos of us counting to 5 in Samoan. We had to choose an instrument or hand action to count in time with. This took alot of practice too. Have fun learning to count to 5 in Samoan. Matarake did well at trying to lead us to count to 10 in Niuean. We almost got it!

On Tuesday March 3rd, Miss Paton taught us Statistics. We first made a bar graph on our favourite lolly flavours. Our favourite flavours were: Strawberry and Banana. After lunch we had to sort out a packet of Fruit Burst lollies and sort out the lolly flavours in the packet. There were more green lime flavoured lollies in the packet than other flavours. There were the same number of wildberry and strawberry lollies in the packet.
This week we learnt all about the number 3. We wrote the number, match objects or classroom equipment and found the number in the classroom environment.
